Hard nosed kids turn away from torture — not because of who it is — but because of what it is. The subject of the torture makes no difference, and the fact that students were looking away proves it’s hard to watch — except for sadistic people. It is true that people think there is nothing anyone could do to possibly deserve such a horrible death — including Jesus or anyone killed by soldiers or extremist actors. There is no evidence that Jesus suffered more of a physical beating than every other man on the Earth. Spiritual and moral agony is another story. In addition, while it may be true that this should be taught to followers of Christ, the presentation should not be in such away that people choose Christ out of fear.
It should be hard to watch. And that’s ok. You tell the truth exactly as it is. There is proof it was more suffering, the Bible says his visage was so marred more than any other man, and his form more than the sons of men. I take the Bible at what it says, believing in Faith. That is exactly as a child has to do as well, believe by faith the Word of God. You either believe it, or you don’t. If you pick it apart, there is no faith. You can’t explain a lot of things in the Bible, but that does not mean it did not happen. As far as the fear element, anyone who reads the Bible has good reason to fear if they have no personal relationship with Christ.
